Word for the Day by Pastor Chris
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16.
You will hear many voices today calling out for your attention. Voices clamoring for your time and attention. Voices affecting your decisions and actions.
The most important voice we need to hear is the voice of God. And you can hear him most clearly in his Word, the Bible.
God’s Word will tell you to worship God not idolise things, love others not self, surrender your life and not gain the world but lose your soul.
The photo is of one of our BB captains, Yam Kai Chow. He has faithfully served his alumnus, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School for 17 years since graduating. He was recognised at the school’s Founder’s Day on Friday.
He has impacted so many young lives for God with gladness of heart. Like us, there are a million and one things he could do every weekend – retreat into his own cave, chill out, hang out.
But he has chosen to listen to God’s Word to seek the things above. That Jesus Christ is Lord and we should tell others of him.
Listening to God’s Word brings about heart change – from self to God, from self to others.
Is God speaking to you to drop something dangerous of self-pleasure, self-interest or self-glory? Is his voice saving you from obsessive self-concern and other-destruction.
May God empower you to hear and heed his voice above every other loud but unhelpful voice demanding your love, loyalty and life. Only God deserves that.
