11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. (1 Peter 2:11-12)
As God’s people, we have two battlefronts. The first is the war with our sinful nature within us. The second is the war with an unfriendly and accusing world. God’s call for us is not simply to practise personal piety but, more importantly, embark on public good or benefaction.
The best way to stop the bad-mouthing of Christians in an increasingly accusatory world is the good heartedness and good living of believers as we proclaim the Good News. Our proclamation of God’s love is worked out by a demonstration of God’s love.
Last year, ARPC became the first church to take part in The President’s Challenge, which seeks to reach the needy and poor in Singapore. Let’s Carnival in 2015 blessed 10 Charities and involved our whole church – from the young to the old – reaching out to more than 5000 attendees who attended the Carnival.
We pray to continue to share God’s love and “leave no one behind” in Singapore’s frenetic pace of material progress.
This year, under the umbrella name of ARPC Cares, we will be embarking on two different events on Saturday 17 December to bless the community again.
First, ARPC Cares @ the Gardens. Partnering the President’s Challenge, we will be blessing 5 charities and Comcare recipients from 5 sub-constituencies in the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and sharing the Christmas joy as we host them on an excursion at the Gardens by the Bay, followed by a luncheon.
Second, ARPC Cares @ BB Share-a-Gift. We will be accompanying our Boys’ & Girls’ Brigades to reach out to the needy with the BB Share-a-Gift program.
We are praying for 250 people from our Discipleship Groups (DGs) for ARPC Cares @ the Gardens, and 100 for ARPC Cares @ BB Share-a-Gift. May the God of compassion give us hearts of compassion to share God’s love in any way.
For God’s Glory,
Pastor Christopher Chia
